Brooklyn Afro-Funksters Kaleta & Super Yamba Band are fronted by Afrobeat veteran Kaleta, aka Leon Ligan-Majek, who hails from the Benin Republic in West Africa and is the former guitarist for Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade and Lauryn Hill.

Drawing on 40+ years of experience with the world's top talent, Kaleta's seasoned and exuberant performance style is backed by the explosive chemistry and magic he shares with his Super Yamba Band. Radio Free Honduras is a mostly acoustic Latin folk-rock band, fronted by Honduran music legend and guitar virtuoso Charlie Baran. Before relocating to Chicago, Charlie was a fixture in the Honduran music scene. He became well known by those in the music industry as a composer and songwriter, and was revered by audiences for his talent as a performer. In Honduras he is best known as a founding member of the Honduran punta-rock band Banda Blanca. Charlie teamed up with Dan Abu-Absi (of JT and the Clouds and Birds of Chicago fame) to put together Radio Free Honduras a band of seasoned Chicago players who bring a wide range of influences to the music. The main focus of the band is on original music, but performances will often feature well known hits from Latin America, and Spanish language versions of American music of the 60's and 70's as well. This show will be their CD Release Show!

La Havana Madrid

Catch me acting in my first theatrical production La Havana Madrid! I hit the stage on June 15-16 at 3PM and June 19-22 at 7:30 PM

Back by popular demand, La Havana Madrid is Teatro Vista/Collaboraction ensemble member SandraDelgado’s immersive documentary theater experience, complete with live music, based on the true story of the 1960’s Chicago nightclub, La Havana Madrid. Inspired by real stories of Cuban, Puerto Rican and Colombian immigrants who found refuge there, La Havana Madrid recreates a special time and place in Chicago history by immersing audiences in the lively music of that decade, from mambo to salsa. Throughout, La Havana Madrid also tells how and why Latinos originally migrated to the shores of Lake Michigan, only to be pushed further west – away from the lake – by the forces of gentrification and racism.

¡Esso Afrojam Funkbeat / Local Motive

FREE SHOW // 21+ // 1366 N MILWAUKEE

¡ESSO Afrojam Funkbeat
¡ESSO! Afrojam Funkbeat is a dynamic musical ensemble formed in Chicago in 2013. They perform a variety of roots rock inspired dance music from North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean Islands. The ethnically diverse musicians establish energizing polyrhythmic grooves and combine biting twang guitars, thumping bass, with the strength of brass horns, group singing, and urban poetry. Inspired by Chicago's soulful blues, jazzy house, and global fusion heavyweights, the group deliver their performances with purpose and verve; unifying listeners through sound and dance.
¡ESSO! was awarded "Best New Band," and "Best World/International Music Act" by the Chicago Reader's Poll in 2016. Back from their first festival dates in México and a national tour across the US in the Summer of 2017, ESSO released their sophomore studio album "Juntos" on all platforms to critical acclaim nationwide.

Local Motive
As a followup to their debut 4-song EP, “Superconductors,” this new album captures the electric energy of a Local Motive performance, bursting with lyrical messages, irresistible soulful melodies, and the spirit of old-school rhythm & blues. The “Grams” LP is bookended by “Twig” & "Symbiosis" to begin & end on a hopeful note, lyrically & musically, but the album also delves into darker tones, commenting on universal struggles of identity on tracks like “Killer” & “High Life.”
Influences of soul legends are apparent in both the singing of Chilean vocalist, Daniella Rojas & Chicago-native, Mike Vinopal, along with their contemporaries like Alabama Shakes, The Black Keys, & Gary Clark Jr. This powerful new record from Local Motive is a fully-realized statement of new songs from the band that flows from start to finish, with loads of hooks that you’ll be whistling to yourself the next morning.
